Love of a Lifetime

As my grandmother and I walked arm in arm down the hall of the assisted living facility, she pressed her cheek to mine and said, “I’ve been this way before, but I wanted to share it with you.” “What did she mean?” I thought. “It’s time for me to go. I’m tired.” she said. I looked at the nurse and beckoned for her to help me get her to her room for she was getting weaker by the moment. She sat down on the bed and in one fluid motion, began to fall back and took her last breath. In that instant, I saw my grandfather. He appeared in time to catch her in his arms before her head hit the pillow. As soon as she passed, in a split second, she sensed him and flashed the biggest smile as she turned toward him and their eyes met. He said, “Hello beautiful!” The moment was so intimate that I felt as if I was intruding. There was so much love that flowed between them that it seemed to radiate throughout the room. Agape love!

I awoke from my dream with with tears in my eyes, praising God for allowing me to witness such pure, genuine love. Then HE reminded me that we All must pass this way. Just as a baby must leave the mother’s womb, we must leave this earth. Such joy to return to HE who created us and experience that pure agape love.

What is AGAPE? It is - unconditional love that is always giving and impossible to take or be a taker. It devotes total commitment to seek your highest best no matter how anyone may respond. This form of love is totally selfless and does not change whether the love given is returned or not. There are different types of love such as Eros and Phileo but agape is the true form of love.

I pray that you experience this agape love, the love of our FATHER for HE is love (1 John 4:7-12). May your heart be filled with happiness and your soul with unspeakable joy, in Jesus name, Amen!

*** My grandparents were married for over 70 years and passed within 6 months of each other. He passed away first. They were in love for a lifetime***
